OZEV Grant

The OZEV Grant is ending for homeowners on March 31st 2022.

Generally we will aim to offer an installation date within a 3-4 week lead time.  However, there are factors that can delay the process which are out of our control and unfortunately, if any delays occur, we will not be able to help you claim the £350

What is happening to the OZEV Grant?

The OZEV Grant, or Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, is ending for homeowners. The changes mean homeowners with off-street parking such as a garage, driveway, allocated space etc will no longer be able to claim the £350 Government contribution if their installation has not taken place and been successfully completed by March 31st, 2022.

From April 2022, the Government OZEV department is directing the grant elsewhere such as landlords.

How long do I have to claim the OZEV Grant?

Officially, the OZEV Grant for homeowners finishes on March 31st, 2022, which is the final date for installations under this scheme.

However, we strongly advise you don’t wait until the last minute to get your charger installed because you could miss out on the grant due to overwhelming demand for OZEV approved installers.

What can delay my EV charger installation?

Currently, the average lead times for your EV charge point installation is 3-4 weeks.  However, there are factors that can delay your installation some of which can be avoided, and others cannot.

Reasons for delays may be:

  • Vehicle not being on the Government approved list , If you are applying for the OZEV Grant then your vehicle must be on the Government approved list.

  • Payment hasn’t been made,  Some delays to installation are due to customers not paying. Unfortunately, we cannot start the installation process or order your charger until payment has been completed

  • Grant evidence not submitted , Before we can arrange an installation date, we must make sure all the documentation is in place for your OZEV Grant application to ensure your application is not rejected by the Government

  • Incorrect nominated driver letter or salary sacrifice document,  If you are getting your EV via work or salary sacrifice scheme, we will need specific documentation to prove this is the case called an Annex I. The Government is very strict about what this documentation should include, such as a nominated driver letter or salary sacrifice document, so it is imperative we receive the correct information from you. Unfortunately, the smallest of errors (such as a typo or missing information) will be rejected by the Government delaying the entire process.

  • Dealerships not providing customer with correct paperwork,  As part of the evidence, we need to submit to the Government, we have to prove you are the owner/driver of the eligible vehicle. This often means the dealership where you bought or ordered the vehicle from will need to provide some documentation.

  • The new OZEV Grant,  The Government is making some changes to the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme that will make it easier for non-resident landlords and social housing providers to benefit from a £350 contribution to the installation of an EV charge point at rental properties.

How much can landlords and social housing providers claim through the OZEV Grant?

Each EV charge point socket will be eligible for a £350 contribution from the Government OZEV department.

Who can apply?

The OZEV Grant Landlord Scheme is open to property owners, property management companies and social housing.  Vacation rentals are not eligible.  There are also schemes for those living in flats, including leasehold flats, and rental accommodation.  The OZEV Grant will also provide support for owners of apartment blocks.

To summarise, from April 2022

  • A grant of up to £350 per socket is available with a limit of 200 sockets.
  •  A maximum grant of £70,000 is permitted.
  • Applicants must be a registered business or public authority. If they are a private organisation, they may be registered with Companies House, have a VAT registration, or be a private registered provider of social housing.
  • The property must have associated private parking. There is no limit as to how many charge point sockets can be installed in each property within the overall number of grants available.
  • You can claim for a maximum of 200 EV charge point sockets under the OZEV Grant.Twin chargers are classed as two charge point sockets.
  • If you are a landlord, building owner or social housing organisation, the property at which the charger is being installed must have private parking.
